Ayeshah’s Podcast:
The Forgotten Voices of The Gambia
The film traces the personal journey of Ayeshah Jammeh, a human rights activist, survivor, and niece of former Gambian dictator Yahya Jammeh. Through her voice, the film recalls the moment her life was irrevocably altered: the killing of her father by the Junglers, the regime’s notorious death squad.
What emerges is not only a story of loss, but a deeply intimate portrait of resilience shaped by violence, silence, and memory.
Beyond the past, the film confronts the present. It explores Ayeshah’s complex relationship with The Gambia’s transitional justice process—its promises, its limitations, and the obstacles that continue to block true accountability. In response, the film follows her turn toward an alternative path: the use of podcasting as a powerful tool to amplify silenced stories and bring social justice cases into the public sphere. Through her voice and these conversations, Ayeshah reshapes the meaning of justice on her own terms, while the film asks what is still missing for her, and for many Gambians, to truly obtain it.
The Mandorla Films team, together with Justice Rapid Response, join forces to tell the story of Ayeshah Jammeh, bringing her personal testimony to the screen in order to promote the rights and access to justice of victims and survivors. Through this collaboration, the film seeks not only to document her journey, but to amplify voices too often left unheard, framing her story within a broader struggle for accountability, dignity, and justice.
